The Parade Crasher

Hints for Next Time:

  1. Be sure to bring extra blankets and a big tarp to every parade you attend. Use the tarp to block off the shoulder of the road in front of you so mean ladies don't block your kid's view of the parade. (Marc and I discovered this after a "nice old lady" decided to block our view of the parade, but it's okay because "She was so sorry but there was nothing she could do about it." She had no other choice because her other spot wasn't in the shade so she "had" to move. Of course, her new spot is not in the shade either. Our discussion was like arguing with a drunk.)

Buying a New Car

Hints for Next Time:

  1. "This whole idea of walking into a car store to negotiate the price of a car is a really bad idea for the consumer, because you are only talking to one supplier," Bragg says.
His advice: Call a number of area dealers, tell them what car you want to buy, then send a fax or e-mail asking for their bottom-line price — including taxes and destination charges.
Sometimes, Bragg says, the prices they offer are less than you would have been willing to pay.

Sunless Tanning Lotion

I'm not sure if this is what my husband had in mind, but I do think it would be helpful:

Hints for Next Time:

  1. Put regular lotion on your hands BEFORE applying the sunless tanner.
  2. Rub in the sunless tanner VERY well around the ankles and feet.
  3. Wash hands immediately after using.
  4. Don't use it more than every other day.
  5. Don't forget the back of your neck!

Zion Backcountry Permits

Hints for Next Time:

  1. Sign up for Zion Express Permits. This will allow online reservation of backcountry permits, but requires sitting through a brief presentation at the Visitor's Center. See here for details.

Orderville Slot Canyon-Epic!

Great hike!

Hints for Next Time:

  1. Cheese and salami on bread? crackers? Daryl had some and it tasted sooo good after the hike.
  2. Keens instead of Chacos. Save the piggies!
  3. Waterproof camera case that hangs from the neck? Belt? Something to make camera access easier when it the hike hits water...
  4. Walking stick. Hard to navigate an active riverbed without an extra balance point...

Welcome!

This blog is established as a repository to keep reminders about lessons learned after participating in some activity. The impetus for this came following my first slot canyon experience. While it was wonderful, I learned a couple things I'd like to remember for the next time I hike a slot canyon. Rather than burden my brain with minutae, why not write it down in an easily-accessible location and open it up to other contributors?

Brilliant.

So, here are the ground rules (subject to revision):

1. Use Labels to identify the activity. Since you can filter by labels, this will make it easier for others to find related articles and to benefit from your wisdom.
